WAILUKU — Maui Health announced plans to increase the number of first-dose coronavirus vaccination appointments, while Kauai has widened the availability of vaccine doses.

HONOLULU (AP) — The mayor of Kauai County said Tuesday he wants to reinstate a requirement that all travelers arriving in his jurisdiction quarantine for 14 days, regardless of whether they have obtained a negative COVID-19 test.

The state Department of Health reported no deaths and 61 new COVID-19 cases today. Because of the department's two-day delay in posting new numbers, the counts represent cases from Sunday.

Some counties are reporting more timely numbers that may differ from the state's counts.

Oahu had 45 new cases, Hawaii County 7, Kauai 1, Maui 4, and Lanai and Molokai none. There were 4 new cases diagnosed out of state.

The state Department of Health reported no deaths and 114 new COVID-19 cases today. Because of the department's two-day delay in posting new numbers, the counts represent cases from Saturday.

Oahu had 80 new cases, Hawaii County 10, Kauai 3, Maui 11, and Lanai and Molokai none. There were 10 new cases diagnosed out of state.

The latest counts bring the Oahu total to 14,873, Hawaii County, 1,551, Kauai 100, Maui 495, Lanai 106 and Molokai 17. The number of out-of-state cases total 191.

The state Department of Health yesterday reported 53 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths.

With the state’s recent reporting changes, the daily case counts are two days old. The health department said by email that the receipt of 4,000 to 5,000 electronic records from the labs that handle the tests take time to process, accounting for the delay.

The Hawaii Department of Health today reported one new death from COVID-19 and 101 new cases. The latest statewide case count brought the total number of infections to 13,146 since the pandemic began. Deaths total 164. 

There have now been 11,788 cases on Oahu (86 new cases), 866 on Hawaii Island (14 new cases), 397 for Maui County (1 new case), and 59 on Kauai County (no new cases). Those diagnosed out of state stood at 36.

The Hawaii Department of Health today reported three new deaths from COVID-19 and 83 new cases. The latest statewide case count brought the total number of infections to 12,937 since the pandemic began. Deaths total 157.

Hawaii recorded four more deaths today and 211 new COVID-19 cases, the state Department of Health reported. The latest counts bring the state death toll to 79 and the total number of cases to 9,202. There are 190 new cases on Oahu, 17 on Hawaii Island, and 4 on Maui County.

Local governments in Hawaii have not yet faced the acute budget woes being felt at the state level. That may change if more local businesses are forced to close.

The online hosting platform Airbnb has agreed to help Kauaʻi County enforce its short-term vacation rental laws, Mayor Derek Kawakami and Airbnb announced yesterday.

Airbnb will remove any short-term rentals on Kauaʻi from its platform if hosts are not operating within the parameters set by county. Kawakami says this agreement with the online hosting platform has been in the works for quite some time.


LIHUE, Hawaii — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency plans to close 16 large capacity cesspools on Kauai as part of an ongoing effort to protect Hawaii's water resources.

Hawaii Gov. David Ige on Monday confirmed the state has its first community-spread coronavirus case. The state reports there are now 10 cases of COVID-19 in the state with the addition of two Oahu residents and one Maui visitor. Media reports say a Kualoa Ranch employee with no travel history to indicate her infection came from out of state has tested positive for the virus, which signals the disease is spreading within the community.
