This week on Helping Hand we’re learning about the 2019 Footsteps to Transition Fair Saturday, November 2nd, at Kapolei Middle School cafeteria from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Hosted by the Department of Education, it’s for middle and high school students with special needs and their family, loved ones and caregivers to assist in critical details of making a life transition and explore a range of opportunities for adult life.

This week on Helping Hand we welcome local nonprofit K.E.L.I.I. Foundation, also known as the Keiki Education Living Independent Institute. According to their website, their mission is to help individuals with autism and other special needs to have a higher quality of life, including transitioning out of the Department of Education to adulthood, and teaching independent living.

This week on Helping Hand it’s Save Vietnam’s Wildlife, a Vietnam nonprofit, founded and run by Vietnamese. While they work to save a number of animals, they’ve earned respect from a number of conservation organizations for their rapid-response rescues and success in rehabilitating pangolins, a highly vulnerable, virtually defenseless mammal being eaten into extinction by consumers in the Asia Pacific.

On Helping Hand this week it’s Hawaii Marine Animal Response, the largest local nonprofit marine species conservation and response organization. They do things like save injured or imperiled animals, conduct species management and recovery, and inform and engage the public. These first-responders to vulnerable and beloved area critters are often seen on beaches trying to protect resting Hawaiian monk seals.
