This week and weekend marks the 50th Anniversary of the Woodstock Music Festival. So I'm using this show to showcase some of the best known and unknown performances from the festival.
Working out the playlist for another Hawaiian Airlines inflight radio show this evening on Bridging the Gap... which means it's a collection of favorite songs entirely from independent artists.
I'm been on a Hip-Hop kick the last few days. So the majority of this session of Bridging the Gap is going to be a collection of Jazz influenced Hip-Hop, and a few artists that are currently trending.
This session of Bridging the Gap is picked on the fly with a few target songs spread out over some really unrelated categories. So we're doing the weave together and fishing for sound.

I'm breaking this session of Bridging the Gap in half. The 1st hour is wrapped around the funk of Art Neville of The Meters who passed away today at 81. The 2nd hour will be filled with (mostly) mellow new releases including some Khruangbin, Leon Bridges and Moonchild.

We'll also be paying tribute to Bossa Nova founder João Gilberto who passed away on Saturday at 88.

Since the weather is still hot and muggy (thought it's supposed to clear up) and since it's now officially summertime, this session of Bridging the Gap is going to be packed with sunshine filled songs.
This session of Bridging the Gap is going to be a little random... about as random as the cat meme that's pictured. I'm trying to weave together a little Jazz, a little afro-funk, and a little indie rock into the next two hours... because why not listen to good music... why not make memes out of stuffed Persian cat.
This show started as a buffet of new Jazz releases... but morphed into a variety of Jazz, Americana, Latin and more. We're starting off with new music from Quantic (pictured DJing live in Honolulu a few years ago).
As you may have discovered… I have a one-hour inflight version of this show on Hawaiian Airlines that’s on any of the flights around the world (but not on inter-island hops… as it’s just enough time to drink that little juice and land). Cleaning off my desk... musically speaking, and working through all of the wonderful new music that's been piling up. The 1st hour will be more world oriented from Cuba to Cumbia. 2nd hour will be downtempo, and indie selections.
It's not quite summertime (the season technically starts on June 21st and runs till September). But the weather has been nice and it seems fitting to roll out some early summertime music. So this session of Bridging the Gap is going to be a sunny swirl of psychedelic rock, surf, bossa and other lightweight fun.
