Some Honolulu bar owners have filed a lawsuit claiming the city's tiered system for reopening businesses during the coronavirus pandemic is arbitrary.

Where we stand

The Hawaii Department of Health reported 2 deaths and 169 new COVID-19 cases today. That brings the state's total to 6,600 cases. Total deaths now number 49. Of the new cases, 150 are on Oahu, 10 in Maui County, and 9 on Hawaii Island.

The Institute for Human Services on Saturday confirmed the death from COVID-19 of one of its workers, 36-year-old Willie Talamoa. 

IHS recently converted its Sumner Street men's shelter into a temporary quarantine center after a cluster of about 20 cases developed at the location.

The state Department of Health today reported 36 new COVID-19 cases following 23 new cases yesterday and a record 41 cases on Tuesday. The 34 cases are on Oahu, 1 on Kauai and 1 on Hawaii Island.

The state's total coronavirus case count now stands at 1,130 with 19 deaths. Oahu has 842 cases, Maui County has 130, Hawaii County has 97 and Kauai County has 43. Eighteen residents have been diagnosed outside of the state. One hundred twenty-three people have required hospitalization and 840 people have been released from isolation.

Where we stand

The Hawaii Department of Health reports that Hawaii recorded its 18th death from COVID-19 today. An elderly Honolulu man died from the virus, the first coronavirus death in the islands since May 3. The state also reported 17 new cases today, the second daily jump as the state plans for a partial lifting of the visitor quarantine on Aug. 1.

Hawaii Gov. David Ige on Wednesday said that starting Aug. 1, travelers arriving from out of state may bypass a 14-day quarantine requirement if they test negative for COVID-19.

Where we stand

Hawaii recorded three new coronavirus cases again today, the third day running of three cases after a spell of zero or single new cases. 

The state health department now reports the number of recorded cases at 651; deaths remain at 17. The case count for Oahu is at 421, Maui County at 119, Hawaii Island at 81 and Kauai at 20. There are 10 cases diagnosed out of state. Some 606 people have been released from isolation.

Two more coronavirus-related deaths have been reported, one tied to the Maui Memorial Medical Center cluster, the state Department of Health said today. That brings the total number of deaths to 12 since tracking began in late February. The case count today is at 586, up 2.
