classical pacific

Thanks to a generous donation of many boxes of CDs by James McGill, I am able to curate another entire program of new arrivals to the HPR Library.

Classical Pacific presents classical music from pre-Renaissance to the current day, locally curated by Louise King Lanzilotti from a Pacific perspective. The program is live weekdays from 3-6pm Hawaiian Standard time, and streams live on hawaiipublicradio.org and on the free mobile app HPR.

Today, music culled from a new large donation by James Mc Gill to the HPR Music Library. You'll hear music performed by Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, Sviatoslav Richter, Yehudi Menuhin, the Juilliard Quartet, and more.

This morning I was sitting with a small group of friends at my favorite coffee shop and they asked me what was on the program for the day. I asked them what they would like to hear, and the result is today's program on Classical Pacific.

I will be away from mike next week, and Judy Anderson will be taking the reins for those five days. Mahalo, Judy.

The music department at HPR is growing. As a result, we have been training some substitutes. The first, Sharene Taba, has been hosting once a week for a few months, and Maika‘i Nash is on his way to becoming another sub. He' been learning how to operate the Board in the music studio and doing announcements a couple of times a week. Today, Maika‘i will have his first opportunity to curate a program for Classical Pacific. Join us!
