Kapalua Airport in Maui has reopened after a brush fire damaged power lines, forcing it to close and prompting evacuation of nearby residents Tuesday. By Wednesday afternoon, Maui officials say the fire burned less than a thousand acres, and is 70% contained.

HONOLULU — Honolulu firefighters battled a brush fire after an Army drone crashed in the mountains near an Schofield Barracks yesterday afternoon.

As Hurricane Lane approached the islands, West Maui residents prepared for wind and rain. Instead, they were awakened by three brush fires that burned more than 2,000 acres. Since then, the community has come together to help the hardest-hit families rebuild.

For the twelfth day and night in a row, Hawaii County firefighters were on site overnight monitoring the Lako Street fire in West Hawaii.  The 25-acre fire broke out Wednesday March 2nd, and was contained within a firebreak.
