HONOLULU (AP) — The board of a semi-autonomous Honolulu agency in charge of building a light rail project to connect the island of Oahu has decided not to renew the contract of its CEO.

Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell is suspending the Neal S. Blaisdell Center renovation project, citing the uncertainty over the financing and timing of the elevated rail project and the coming switch in city administrations.


The Federal Transit Administration is withholding payments for Honolulu's rail system until officials make changes to its plan to get the $9 billion project back on track.

The third and latest federal subpoena sent to the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation asks for copies of all unredacted minutes from the transit agency's board of directors meetings, including those from executive sessions, over about an eight-year period, the agency said today. 


The U.S. Department of Justice has subpoenaed more than 30,000 documents from the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation.
