Today and tomorrow guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani joins HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence as the latest guest in our new HPR ATC interview series Off the Road, with musicians remotely sharing how the pandemic and other crises have touched them.

Joe Satriani became a force on the music scene in the 1980’s, and has a resume that includes working with Mick Jagger, Deep Purple, his super group Chickenfoot, guitar tours with the evolving project G3, and his website calls him the world’s most commercially successful solo guitar performer, with six gold and platinum discs to his credit (including one more gold award for the debut album by Chickenfoot, which also features Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony and Chad Smith).

Prior to the pandemic, Joe had finished work on his latest album, Shapeshifting, and decided to release it despite the crisis. The world tour for it, however, was postponed until at least April 2021.

As part of our segment, Joe even broke out his guitar, offering an exclusive performance for HPR’s All Things Considered audience.

Tomorrow we’ll wrap up our special, including hearing Joe share the intense details from the start of the pandemic, and the experiences that led to the postponement of the tour. He also shares his thoughts on both the future of touring amidst a global public health crisis, and how he’s been touched by the Black Lives Matter / police reform protests. Tomorrow we’ll also post the complete hour+ interview it’s based on.
