  Kwai Ghost Net Boat

The vessel Kwai can often be found docked at Kewalo Basin here on Oahu when it’s not traveling on the open ocean throughout the pacific. This summer the  Pacifc cargo ship was hired to sail out into the gyre to collect marine debris. We talked to owner Brad Ives earlier this year as he was about to set sail to the Kiribas and then to the Cook islands. Later this spring the Kwai will head back out to the gyre.

Ghost Net Artist

University of Hawaii graduate student Kat Kazlauskas has worked with marine debris collected by Sustainable Coastlines.  “WITHIN, WITHOUT” is the title of her exhibit that opens this Sunday at UH Manoa as she shares with us there is beauty in trash.
