March For Our Lives Honolulu

Students around the country are planning pro-gun control rallies for this Saturday. Here in Hawaii students from both public and private schools are finalizing plans for similar rallies. Organizers Hayden Hawkins and Imiloa Bourland sat down with us to talk about what’s being organized. Hawkins attends University Lab School. Bourland is from Punahou.

Legislators Consider Tougher Invasive Species Control Measures

Invasive species have been altering Hawaii’s environment since the first human contact, but recent generations have seen new invasives arriving at an ever-increasing rate.  To date there’s has been no single statewide agency to deal with the problem, which is why Senate Bill 2399, which would create a “Hawaii Invasive Species Authority,” is currently being considered.

100 Years of Hawaiian Civic Clubs

Next week Monday we celebrate Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole with a state holiday. He is credited with starting the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs which in December marks its 100 anniversary.

Hawaii Pacific University Opens Esports Arena

The face of collegiate athletics is changing and someday soon the major sporting events of the year may be played only in the virtual realm; so-called E-Sports. Hawaii Pacific University has become an enthusiastic early adopter of e-sports; last month it opened the state’s first e-sports arena at Aloha Tower Marketplace.
