New Sprinkler Laws for Honolulu

Honolulu has a new sprinkler law in place - 8 months after the deadly Marco Polo fire. Mayor Kirk Caldwell signed two bills into law yesterday afternoon. They do not mandate sprinkler installation but do provide tax breaks to encourage installation.  At the signing, Mayor Caldwell expressed his desire to one-day see a mandatory sprinkler law.

Sprinkler Retrofits: A Local Job?

It’s now been a week since fire broke out at the Marco Polo condominium complex in Honolulu, killing three people.  This week, Honolulu’s mayor and the City Council are calling for older condominiums to be retrofitted with sprinklers. Pacific Business News took a look at whether such work could be done. PBN managing editor Janis Magin has more.
